— WINE —
SUTRO produces 1,200 cases of Bordeaux Varietal wines annually: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. Our philosophy of minimal intervention winemaking combined with restrained use of new oak allows the volcanic terroir to shine through in the glass. Complex aromas, elegant tannins and racy acidity are hallmark attributes for SUTRO. Founded by Alice Warnecke Sutro in 2012, we source grapes exclusively farmed by Alice’s family at Warnecke Ranch and Vineyard located on Chalk Hill Road in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County. Alice is the first in her family to produce vineyard designated estate wines from this unique terroir.
— LAND —
We are intimately tied to the land where the grapes are grown, where Alice grew up and where she now raises her kids: Warnecke Ranch and Vineyard. Architect John Carl Warnecke established the vineyard in 1973 in the Mayacama Mountain foothills, where Volcanic bedrock meets the banks of the Russian River. Sustainable and Carbon-sequestering farming practices reflect her family’s dedication and passion as land stewards. Margo Warnecke Merck manages the vineyard with a long standing vineyard team with the goal of producing premium quality fruit. Land credit: Wappo and Pomo Tribes.
— ART —
In 2010 Alice made the commitment to live and work at Warnecke Ranch and Vineyard. She promised herself to never let go of her art making passion while doing so. It has taken these many years to find a path that integrates these passions. It remains an elusive goal, but one worthy of dedication, hard work and courage. SUTRO Wine Co. is the vehicle through which Alice communicates her creativity, a living project intertwining grape growing, small scale wine production, creative marketing, authentic hospitality and artistic vision.
